The MIT researchers ' trained ' to see the cheetah robot and jump over obstacles while running. This was the first four-legged robot which is able to jump over obstacles autonomously.
Artificial robot scientist Massachusetts Institute of Technology this can run fast, jump like a cheetah, and past obstacles like a horse. In a video that has been clicked on more than 4 million times in the span of five days in the website Youtube, the robot looks managed to jump over obstacles with various heights of up to 40 cm.
MIT experts must devise key elements from scratch, because it does not find it on existing technology. Like for example, a lightweight and powerful machines, and electronics can control the ability of 12 engines.
And the most important is the algorithm that is able to determine how big the power required to move legs in seconds. So, the robot can reach speeds of up to 48 kilometres per hour as it passes through a tricky surface.
There is hope, the robot would later be used for search and rescue operations in areas too dangerous for humans. "10 more years our aim is to make this robot could save lives," said MIT Professor Sangbae Kim.
This project was funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the u.s. Defense Ministry has also developed a similar robot along Boston Dynamics.
